FrontPage

Tideland is a small label for Open Source Software developed in non-mainstream languages like Erlang, Smalltalk, and Python. This wiki contains background informations, some details about the design, and the work items of the releases for all our projects. Those are identified through a three letter acronym (TLA) which is also the prefix of the wiki pages. Finally there are links for the downloads and some documentation about our development standards.

2008-02-26 - Migration into this wiki

For a simpler management the sites www.tideland.biz and wiki.tideland.biz will be consolidated into this wiki. So we'll migrate some of the page during the next days.

2007-04-09 - Tideland Application Stack

As the TidelandNetBusinessFramework is moving towards the internal alpha tests we would like to show you a short overview over the Tideland Application Stack.

tideland-application-stack.png

It gives a first impression how the frameworks work together and how web applications can be developed based on the stack. Our first own application - please stay tuned - will show more details, also our future extensions of the documentation here in our wiki.

2007-03-05 - Current status

Everyone who's scanning our pages here or who's reading the blog [WWW] http://mue.tideland.biz get's an impression about what's going on. Here is a short summary about the current status:

Common Smalltalk Library (CSL)

The TidelandCommonSmalltalkLibrary has reached beta status. It is the base library for all our Smalltalk projects. So we'll soon release it, but it will allways be extended.

Smalltalk Object Store (SOS)

The TidelandSmalltalkObjectStore is also beta. It works really fine, and as you can see at SosWorkItems only a few tests and the recovery in case of a crash while writing is missing. The algorithm for this last item is allready outlined but just not implemented. I've you're interested in testing just write a short mail to [MAILTO] mue@tideland.biz.

Lightweight Application Server (LAS)

The TidelandLightweightApplicationServer is still in alpha status. But the tests show a fast and stable working so that we'll change the status to beta soon. It works independent of the SOS and any web framework. So you can use it with Seaside and AIDA, with Glorp and EXDI, as you like it.

Net Business Framework (NBF)

As the last brick of our foundation frameworks the development of the TidelandNetBusinessFramework has just started. The concept for a flexible mutli-client capable architecture supporting multiple locales, a fine grained authorization, and REST-like URLs will be realized and documented the next weeks. The NBF is based on the LAS.

2007-01-28 - We are still alive

Hmmm, looking on the blog entries here it seems that this site is dead. But please don't think so. We have done really much since the last blog entry. The announced betas had been for Squeak. But after a short time we decided to make a major change. Our favorite Smalltalk environment is now Cincom VisualWorks. It is portable, complete, stable, and has a very good performance. And there's a company behind it, which gives us more security than the Squeak community (even if Squeak is still a great software, but without a clear line for application developers).

So we ported our software to VisualWorks, made major refactorings, and focussed on our own persistency strategies for the TidelandSmalltalkObjectStore. Much of it is documented at SosWorkItems where you can follow the project progress. We are now very close to the relaunch of the new beta. So please stay tunded.

2006-06-26 - It's done

Yeah, really, it's done. We're proud to present the initial beta releases of our TidelandCommonSmalltalkLibrary and our TidelandSmalltalkObjectStore. Both are available in the Downloads area and will soon also be added to SqueakMap.
